ALUMNI STORIES: CHARLIE REEVES

CHARLIE REEVES

1. When did you/your family come to California and why?

I was born in Anaheim. I still live here today and work here. I love Orange County

.

2. What did you do before coming to Fullerton College?

I went to school in Anaheim at Servite High School where I did my first musical my senor year – “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

3. When were you at FC? What were the principal concerns, activities, and events in which you were involved?

Back in 1986 I was trying to find out what I wanted to do. I knew theatre was part of it, and it still is today. I made life-long friendships at Fullerton College in the theatre department.

4. Who were some of the most memorable people you met then at the college?

Some of the people who I met at Fullerton College and am still in contact with today include Gary Krinke and his beautiful wife Lynda, Bob Jensen, best friend Brooke Wilkes, ex-wife and dear friend Jorri Reeves, Voiza Greene, Stephanie Christian, Patti Cumby and Bronwyn Dodson who was taken from this earth much, much, much too soon.

5. Is there one story that is most memorable?

My first experience at Fullerton College was performing in “The Wiz” in 1986 in their high school student theatre program SRO. That is where I met Jorri, Brooke, Sal, Greg, Voiza, Gary, Lynda, Ray Limon and so many others. It was my introduction to theatre outside of high school and it was one of the best, most unforgettable times of my life. I remember being in the back of Greg Fosmire’s truck with a bunch of the cast. I threw my head back and was laughing hard at something and Jorri said, “Wow! You have really large nostrils.” That is a funny story we still talk about 26 years later. I guess she didn’t mind too much because we ended up being married to eachother for 10 awesome years.

6. What advice do you have for our current students? Never give up on your dreams.

I am not the most talented performer but by not giving up I have realized many of my dreams – interviewing Barbra Streisand, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise and many others….singing and dancing at the Hollywood Bowl, performing with Bernadette Peters and soon – Liza Minnelli. And I’m not done yet! Perseverance will get you far. Like Henry Ford said, “If you think you can do a thing or you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”
