I grew up in northern California, joined the Marine Corps in 1966, and served in Vietnam from 1967-1969. Went to Cal-Poly Pomona, graduated in 1978 and went to work with Hewlett-Packard in Fullerton. I was involved in amateur theater at our church in Fullerton where Bob Jensen also attended. My buddy and I asked if we could visit and learn a few tricks about lighting, set design, and production.
Bronwyn Dodson was one of the first persons we met; she helped us a lot. We also met Randy Stripling, he was a wild man in those days, working on three plays at the same time.
I "invited myself" with Bob's permission and backing to observe, advise, and counsel the folks involved in the production of Tracers. We created an advisory team made up of friends from work, all Vietnam Veterans. Pam Richarde, the director, took the risk to allow us to be involved in her production, and Bob supported our efforts. That was pretty brave of her to do that. I suppose the rest is history as they say. It was fascinating to see how all the guys took a personal interest in their part in the play.
When Bronwyn died; I knew I had to help Bob get the theater re-named in her honor. For me, it is what you do for a fallen Marine - you make sure they are not forgotten. I was only a small part of the Tracers production, and a small part of re-naming the theater.
When you consider the width, breadth, and depth of all that has taken place at Fullerton College since its beginnings, my part, our part, is just a small part of the larger picture, like a small group of dots in a painting by Seurat or Signac. For some, it was another play, another production on which they worked hard. For others it was a life changing experience whose effects persist to this day.
