TOM TELLEZ

Tom Tellez served as the head track & field and cross country coach at Fullerton College from 1962 to 1967. During his time at FC he produced numerous Eastern Conference titles and state champions in various events with notable Hornets athletes Ron Fister Larry Conrad, Rick Sloan (1968 Olympian) and Dennis Walp.

Tellez would later become the field event coach at UCLA under FC Hall of Famer and former Hornet track coach Jim Bush. While at UCLA, Tellez was very effective coaching several NCAA champions in the field events.

Tom moved on from UCLA when he was offered the head track & field coaching position at the University of Houston where he would coach Olympic great Carl Lewis (10 Olympic medals) during his collegiate career and would continue to coach him during the post-graduate years.

Tellez also served as an assistant coach for the 1980 and 1984 USA Olympic teams. He coached the throwing events in 1980 and the jumping events in 1984.

After serving twenty seasons as the head coach at the University of Houston, Tom Tellez continued to serve as a volunteer coach for the UH program. A member of the US Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Tellez has produced some of the greatest track and field performers in the history of the sport.
