TIMELINE

1887

Fullerton is founded, named after George H. Fullerton.

1904

Fullerton is incorporated as a city.

1913

FUHS proposes the board authorize two-year post-graduate work.

First classes held at FJC with 26 students.

1914

Hetebrinkhouse constructed on Chapman Avenue.

1915

First graduating class.

1917

US declares war on Germany.

Board of Trustees votes in favor of military drills in school.

1922

FJC Alma Mater created.

Weekly Torch, college newspaper, established.

1925

Fox Theatre opens in Fullerton.

1927

Fullerton Municipal Airport opens.

1929

Stock Market crash.

1930

Plummer Auditorium opens.

1931

Pat Nixon enrolls at FJC.

1934

FJC campus land purchased.

1935

First building (300) added to FJC campus by WPA.

1938

Great Flood in Fullerton.

1939

FJC attendance exceeds FUHS at 1,341 students.

1941

U.S. declares war on Japan and Axis Powers.

1942

FC Japanese students sent to internment camps.

1945

Alum Leo Fender begins selling guitars.

1948

Ernie Polte state and national record holder in swimming.

1950

Dr. H. Lynn Sheller becomes president.

1952

Bob Hughes twice Olympian in Water Polo and Swim.

1955

FC Choir performs at Disneyland for 1st Christmas event.

1959

Fullerton College Foundation established.

1960

Scuba program created by Ernie Polte.

1962

Hornet sculpture dedicated.

1965

North Orange County Community College District formed.

1965

National Football Championship (also 1967, 1983).

1968

Women's Intercollegiate Sports begin at FC.

1968

Men's Water Polo State Champs (also '73-'74).

1970

Men's Swim State Champs (also 1975).

1971

Fullerton Civic Light Opera incorporated.

1972

Fullerton Junior College becomes Fullerton College.

First Artist in Residence, Wayne Thiebaud.

1973

Fullerton Museum Center moves into former Carnegie Library.

1978

Women's Basketball state champs.

1980

Women's Softball state champs.

1983

Basketball Coach Coleen Riley first to 500 wins.

1987-1989

Theatre on the Green at the Muckenthaler (also 1996).

1989

"Tracers" performs at the Edinburgh Festival.

Journalism wins Golden Crown Award at Columbia University.

1991

Bronwyn Dodson Theatre dedicated.

1998

Virginia Schoepe Wellness Center opens.

2000

3 FC acting alums studying at Juilliard.

2001

World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks.

2002

Measure X funds FC new building projects.

2006

Men's Basketball (37-0) and state champs.

2010

Honorary diplomas awarded to Japanese-Americans Stella Asawa Yano and Mitsuko Funakoshi at Fullerton College under The California Nisei College Diploma Project.

2011

Dance Team national champions, first for any CA school.

Retired trainer Bill Chambers inducted into state Hall of Fame.

2011

Five Engineering students work with NASA.
