STAFF STORIES: DEBI WOELKE

DEBI WOELKE

DEBI WOELKE

Debi Woelke has had an amazing 22-year basketball career in the college ranks, starting with playing guard at Fullerton College. Thirty-three years after the Hornets won the 1978 State Championship under Hall of Fame Coach Colleen Riley, Woelke found herself coaching the Hornets in the California Community College State Championships in 2010.

As Fullerton College’s Head Coach for more than fifteen years, Woelke finished her basketball career with a 330-163 (.669) overall record. Woelke led the Hornets to four consecutive Orange County Empire Conference titles in her last four years as Head Basketball Coach. In 2011, Woelke won her 400th game as a head coach. Under her leadership, the Hornets have posted eleven 20-win seasons. In the last six campaigns, Fullerton College has compiled an impressive 153-47 record and the Hornets qualified for post-season play in fourteen of the last fifteen seasons. One of the Woelke’s most successful seasons was 2009-2010 when she led the Hornets to the state championship game (32–2 overall).

Woelke coached at University of California, Riverside before coming to Fullerton College. She stepped down as Fullerton College’s head basketball coach in 2012 to become the head coach of Women’s Golf.

"The past 15 years at Fullerton College have been my dream
job ever since I was a student athlete here in 1976–1978."
