STAFF STORIES: DR. SUSAN BEERS

DR. SUSAN BEERS

The former Athletic Director and Dean of Physical Education, Dr. Susan Beers retired from Fullerton College in May of 2008. She began her career teaching and coaching women’s aquatics at Fullerton College in 1974.

Coming up in a male-dominated profession during the era, Dr. Beers proved herself as a teacher, coach, administrator, and a leader at Fullerton College with over 34 years of exemplary service. During her time at FC, Dr. Beers was twice voted the Administrator of the Year” by the State Community College Organization of Physical Education (SCOPE) in 2001 and 2007. She completed her doctorate in Institutional Management at Pepperdine University, earned a master’s in Physical Education from Long Beach State University, and received her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Chapman University.

Dr. Beers served as the women’s Athletic Director and Department Chair prior to being named the Division Dean in July of 1992. In her position, Beers oversaw the division budget, curriculum, administration and development of Physical Education programs, while representing the division in college and community matters. Dr. Beers also served as the Orange Empire Conference’s swimming representative.

In 2005 Dr. Beers founded the Fullerton College’s Hornet Heritage Foundation, which supports the FC Athletics Hall of Fame. Without her dedication to the Hornet tradition and her vision, there would be no Hall of Fame at Fullerton College.

Dr. Beers’ tireless efforts and countless personal sacrifices have kept Fullerton College’s Physical Education and Athletic Programs one of the most respected in the State of California today.
